Preventing Pesky Crow’s feet
June 8, 2018
Cairns Clear Skin
While some people find crow’s feet popping up on their faces as character lines, others are taking positive steps to new heights to get rid of these pesky lines that can all of a sudden turn from laugh lines to permanently indented grooves that can make us appear a tad older than what we are. The skin around the eyes is thin and does not have a gland to release oil, making crow’s feet as the first sign of ageing to develop. The first signs of crow’s feet usually appear in mid-20s. They start as a small, fine wrinkle, but they eventually get deeper and bigger as people age. There are many factors that may lead to the causes of crow’s feet. And if you started preventing them in their early stages, then you might be able to prevent them from taking a toll in your life, and affecting your confidence. The skin around the eyes tends to become dryer easier so this time of year make sure you moisturise twice a day. You need to drink 8 or more glasses of water each day. This will make sure you stay hydrated & prevent dryness. Avoid processed & preserved foods. Eat fruits & vegetables especially those high in antioxidants. This will help to protect skin and slow down the ageing process A good eye cream that contains a combination of active ingredients can prevent, strengthen and repair the delicate area around the eyes. Manage stress! Regular exercise and meditation can help control stress & prevent premature development of skin ageing signs. Try and sleep on your back rather than on your side to prevent scrunching up of this delicate area against your pillow for many hours at a time. Ensure you wear a daily SPF factor over your entire face & always wear sunglasses to prevent squinting if you are out in the sun or driving. So If you’ve found yourself dealing with crow’s feet or fine lines around the eyes, using an eye serum can potentially make a big difference in your appearance. Here’s the thing; many people don’t realise it but the skin around our eyes is actually about 80% thinner than the skin on the rest of our body. A serum actually does a number of things, depending on the exact brand and manufacturer. An under eye serum is meant to address some of the following problems: Reduce the appearance of under eye circles Reduce puffiness beneath the eyes Restore the elasticity to the skin around the eyes Minimize wrinkles, crow’s feet and fine lines around the eyes Enhance the firmness and tone of the skin Promote a healthier, younger-looking appearance Cairns Clear Skin has numerous Eye Serums available and even has the latest with Stem cells & growth factors clinically proven to help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles + increase elasticity, tone & luminosity. We all want to know how to slow down the ageing process… Your skin is your largest organ. Treat it with the respect it deserves. Love your complexion and give it the time and attention it deserves and you will get the results you are after. Stay out of the sun. The sun is the number one factor contributing to ageing skin. Always use sunscreen. If you’ve suffered from sun damage, make sure you treat it. Sun spots and brown marks can age you incredibly — talk to us about how you can minimise these and prevent more from coming through. Use powerful, fresh cosmeceutical skincare products and regularly perform a diligent routine ensuring your skin gets nourishing ingredients. Maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. Is Stress affecting your skin?
November 1, 2017
Cairns Clear Skin
Does the thought of Christmas make you stressed?????? It is normally at this time of the year we are all starting to run out of puff and the added pressure of getting organised for Christmas can also put you under the pump. Did you know that skin has the ability to reflect what a person feels inside? For example – fear may show itself as goose bumps, anxiety as sweat, embarrassment as red, rosy cheeks. This is because the skin contains nerve endings that are in constant contact with the brain. Certain skin conditions can also be triggered or exacerbated by stress and being stressed triggers a reaction in your skin cells. For most people, this reaction takes the form of acne or an aggravated bout of rosacea and if you suffer from psoriasis, stress can trigger this condition. Take acne for example. When you are tense, your body releases stress hormones including cortisol, which may increase the skin’s oil production, making you prone to pimples. And if you suffer from Rosacea (facial flushing and redness) then we all know stress is a commonly identified trigger for rosacea. There are many contributing factors that can cause stress. If you are – Over-worked Worried Not eating properly Under the pump to meet deadlines Unorganised and overwhelmed…..just to name a few….the ongoing effects of stress that lead to changes in the skin are numerous. Stress can also lead to poor sleep and that means that the regeneration processes that occur naturally when we get a good night’s sleep often dont take place and this can eventually lead to dark circles under the eyes, duller skin, and extra lines around the forehead and mouth. The tendency to fall back on comfort habits like drinking alcohol, smoking, or eating sugary foods during stressful times is also a big contributor to unhealthy skin and acne flare-ups. For me, I find that the more I am organized and prepared, the less stress I suffer. It is also really important for me to feel energized and positive everyday so that when I see my clients I am always friendly, focused, energised and totally in tune with what their individual needs are. I also distress by de-cluttering. Cleaning out chaos, cleaning out cupboards, cleaning out negative thoughts and being present and mindful. Exercise also plays a big part in my daily routine and this includes jogging every morning with my husband and dog, practicing yoga, cycling and when possible, I love to get out in the water and do some stand up paddle boarding. I make the time for these practices – no excuses and this means setting my alarm for 5am. Yes, it is tough at the start but once you are up and into it you will be amazed at how good you feel. Taking time out to relax in an age where we are trying to always cram so much in, is often easier said than done, but by being aware of it and then taking appropriate measures where needed, you can reduce your stress and reduce the effects of stress on your skin. Sometimes the way you act when you are stressed can also impact your skin . For instance, when people feel stressed they often don’t get enough sleep, drink enough water or maintain their skin care routine. As a result, your skin’s appearance is affected. Simple steps such as:- Prioritising self care. Managing your days better so that you are more organised. Maintaining a proper and effective skin care routine daily ( What you do every day to your skin is so important – I compare it to a gym workout, going one day a week to pump weights doesn’t make you toned or cut. You need to do it on a regular basis.) Learn to say NO and do not over-commit. Only take on a range of work, family, relationship and social commitments that you can manage. Be organised. De- clutter and make lists. If you are struggling, sometimes it is important to seek help from an expert in that field. Don’t let it go on and on. If you cannot get out of that stress pattern, seek out someone who can assist you to move forward and make positive changes. Mindfulness coaching is amazing and can teach you ways to have a positive energy flow in all areas of your life. This Month with every treatment over $250 – you will receive a book written by Published Self help author, Intuitive coach and Motivational speaker currently working to change lives with wellness education for the mind, body & spirit – Jo Ettles. Jo Ettles became a wellness coach ten years ago. She has assisted many people to take responsibility for their wellness, the way they think and see their future and how they ultimately live their lives. Cairns Clear Skin will be giving every client that books a treatment over $250 – A personally signed copy of ” The Shed – change your life by cleaning out your shed” written by Jo Ettles. This is a book for everyone who wants to make a positive, practical & real change in their life. Liz Franz Cairns Clear Skin ...
Caring for your skin during menopause

Cairns Clear Skin
Menopause is a time of transition and, along with a host of other changes it can have a significant impact on your skin. When you reach menopause, the amount of hormones in your bloodstream decrease, resulting in physical symptoms which have a number of implications . As your oestrogen levels drop you might notice your skin becoming more dry, thin, or crepey. Your skin will also have less collagen and elastin, which means more lines, wrinkles and puffiness, and an overall decrease in skin suppleness. You might also experience late onset acne due to increased levels of testosterone. So, what can you do to help support your skin during this time? It’s not all bad news: there are some amazing clinical products available which will make a real difference to your skin. I always say it’s never too late to start, and don’t ever underestimate the results you can achieve using home care. Cosmeceuticals contain active ingredients that are designed to nurture, revitalise, and cosmetically restructure your skin. A cosmeceutical grade home care program should include actives with proven rejuvenation benefits to assist in managing these changes. Focus on moisturising, skin plumping, regenerating the epidermis and dermis, and improving the appearance of wrinkles. Moisturisers should be extra-nourishing with long-term moisturising benefits, able to fight dryness and reduce the appearance of surface lines and wrinkles. Your moisturiser should be applied morning and night on top of your active serums. These may be a combination of Vitamin A, B or c or a serum to help manage your pigmentation or breakouts. Vitamin A benefits: Reverses damaged DNA caused by UV radiation, Increases cellular turnover, stimulates collagen and elastin, shrinks sebaceous glands, thins stratum corneum for better product penetration, reverses the formation of solar keratosis and reduces the risk of developing skin cancers, Vitamin C benefits:- Anti-inflammatory, Melanin inhibator, helps form collagen, remodels and repairs collagen, stimulates wound healing. Lightening & Brightening Serums benefits:- Help with fighting discolouration & aid in prevention of future sunlight-induced pigmentation. Even though your wisdom and confidence may grow as you get older, the same isn’t true for many of your hormone levels so make sure you follow a healthy , fresh diet and make exercise part of your daily routine which will not just help with your skin but overall health and metabolism. If you are struggling with skin changes during your menopausal years then Liz at Cairns Clear Skin can help you get on the right track....
Taking A Holistic Approach

Cairns Clear Skin
Our skin protects us first and foremost, we use it to touch and feel, to cool down and to show our emotions. It is our interface with the world and that is what makes it so unique. We know that healthy skin is vital for our personal well-being. As today’s society imposes its ideals of beauty and underlines the role of physical appearance in personal and professional success, even a benign skin disease or condition, because it is visible, can have a negative impact on people, such as loss of self-esteem. This can have far-reaching consequences, causing clients to become introverted and unsociable and it certainly prevents them from living their lives to the fullest. I often see it in acne clients in particular that have a function to go to and all of a sudden may get a breakout and not want to go out into the public. With the ageing population on the increase, the importance of looking youthful cannot be underestimated. As the older generation leads busy lives and takes an active part in society, they also have higher expectations with regards to their appearance and their need to ‘look the way they feel’. Cairns Clear Skin recognises the importance of having healthy skin at any age and is focused on finding effective solutions for a whole range of skin conditions, so that clients can be treated successfully and can maintain healthy skin throughout their lives. Liz believes healthy skin comes from the inside out. What you choose to put into your body will reflect itself on your skin. Diets filled with processed foods often leave skin looking and feeling dull, oily, and discoloured. But nourished bodies that are fuelled with whole foods containing the recommended amount of vitamins often display a much healthier appearance. What vitamins do you need and what exactly do they do? Cairns Clear Skin looks at a Holistic approach to treating your skin and also has a range of wellness products and vitamins full of antioxidants and Omega 3 to get you on the right track. In much the same way we eat a diet full of antioxidants to promote the health of our bodies, our skin requires strong topical, active antioxidants and vitamins to repair environmental damage and improve the skins health and appearance, now and into the future. Whether its improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, hyper pigmentation, sun damage, acne or rosacea, Liz has years of experience to customize treatments and recommend an effective homecare routine to suit every budget and lifestyle. When You Need MORE Than Just A Facial!

How many times have you heard someone say to you, “Wow, you’re glowing.”? Not often? Then keep reading… Nothing says that you’re healthy more than the condition of your skin. Having healthy skin adds radiance to your appearance. You could be suffering from conditions such as acne, open pores pigmentation & sun damage, facial redness & capillaries and even excessive hair issues. Therefore, it is vital to get expert advice and treatment to address conditions that affect all of us at different times of our lives. When I say a ‘treatment’ I mean the real deal, not just a relaxing facial that feels great but actually doesn’t change your skin at all. I’m talking about skin treatments that actually do something. Sure, the relaxing facials are a great luxury if you have the time, but in terms of actually changing the look of your skin and rectifying problems, you’re much better off spending your money on an active treatment like a peel, IPL or skin needling. Peels are particularly effective when it comes to improving the appearance of fine lines, pigmented lesions, acne, large pores and other common skin concerns. Peels come in all strengths from the “no downtime Peel” to deeper peels which address more sun damaged skin. A peel is suited for those looking for smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin. If you suffer from complaints such as rosacea (facial redness), broken capillaries or pigmentation or freckles then my go to treatment is IPL (Intense Pulse Light): Intense Pulse Light in cosmetic therapy uses light wavelengths that safely target either melanin or haemoglobin in the skin. It can be used to permanently reduce unwanted hair growth, fade brown spots and shut down enlarged or broken capillaries and port wine stain birthmarks. Cairns Clear Skin believes the Dual Pulsed Light (DPL) is a significant advance on the IPL machines of the past and finds it is particularly effective for both hair removal and skin rejuvenation. The Dual Light IPL is a medical grade machine that has many settings, incredible power, and variability of wavelength, colour spectrum, and pulse type to treat different skin conditions and skin types so that it does the job it is designed for quickly and efficiently without the risk of damaging surrounding tissue. These treatments mentioned are a powerful combination. You may need both a combination of a peel & or skin needling & or IPL to get the desired results. But you will notice that your skin, with no downtime at all, will be smoother to touch, more even in tone and have a lovely refreshed glow. At Cairns Clear Skin, Liz has 8 years experience at combining a vast range of technologies to give the greatest possible result in both the short and long term. Here’s to a fresher, younger looking YOU....
Let’s Focus On Pigmentation
August 20, 2017
Cairns Clear Skin
Whilst most of us like to enjoy the hot weather and sunny conditions, one of the biggest issues outside of skin cancer is uneven pigmentation. The scary thing about pigmentation problems is that they often creep up on you. One day your skin looks beautiful, and the next day you can’t stop staring at the freckles, dark spots or other pigment irregularities on your skin. This is because what’s on the outside may not show what’s on the inside and then, before you know it, it’s too late. Your skin cells are affected by intrinsic factors (often hormonal changes or genetics) and extrinsic factors (things like UVA & UBV rays, pollution and lifestyle habits) all of which can cause damage to your skin. One of the ways this damage can manifest itself is through your skin cells producing an excess of melanin, which causes pigmentation in the skin, resulting in what we call a pigmentation disorder. Pigmentation disorders can come in many different forms. Depending on the cause of the damage, you may see sun spots, melasma or hyperpigmentation develop on your skin. Sometimes the pigmentation is visible shortly after the damage is caused, like in the case of a sunburn or suntan, while other damage lies below the surface of the skin and may come up later in life, which is why sometimes they seem to come out of nowhere. A strong prevention program is critical to preventing further damage. Introducing key active ingredients into a simple home care routine will provide you with healthy skin receptors that will function normally and subsequently correct and improve most skin conditions. If you suffer from pigmentation your home care routine should include:- Vitamin A – Reverses damaged DNA caused by uv radiation Stimulates the production of collagen & elastin Increases cell turnover Regulates sebum production and reduces the size of pores. Pigment Lightener & Inhibitor – improves the texture of dull skin by gently exfoliating Regulates the production of melanin to prevent pigment spots Lightens & brightens the skin Vitamin C – A powerful melanin inhibitor Helps form & repair collagen Anti-inflammatory Potent antioxidant Sunscreen – The most important product for all skin types. Treating pigmentation of any kind can be complicated and is not an overnight remedy. At Cairns Clear Skin we have medical grade cosmeceuticals for all skin types. We also have specific peels and the Dermafrac micro-needling device to infuse depigmenting serums straight in to the dermis. Clearer skin will also make you feel more confident and not have you hide behind make-up. Liz Franz Cairns Clear Skin Should pigmentation occur, whatever the cause, Cai Systemrns Clear Skin on cnr Anderson & Pease st has solutions for treating it. The Dermafrac micro-needling has a unique tecnique in delivering specially formulated pigmentation serum to enable the breakdown of this uneven pigmentation that lies deep in the dermis. ...
Feeling Stressed? Walk it off!

Exercise can help reduce stress levels and it also helps to improve your mood especially when you are feeling overwhelmed. Life is motion so it is important to remember the following-The less we move, the less alive we become. Our body is designed to move and in order to experience the highest levels of health and wellness, we must learn to balance rest and exercise. Physical activity should be a joy and something that you look forward to daily. If it is not a joy, then it is not the right form of exercise for you and it is important to find an activity that you will want to participate in daily. Walking is one of the easiest and most enjoyable forms of exercise. Your goal should be to build up to 30-45 minutes of comfortable walking 3-4 times a week. The only equipment you need is a good quality pair of walking shoes and whats not to love about the simplicity in that? Some people like to walk with a purpose or a destination. For example walking to the shops or running errands, but there are many ways to integrate walking into your daily life. For example • Take the stairs instead of the elevator. • Park your car a kilometre or so from work and walk in. • Set your alarm for 6am instead of 7am and take an early morning walk- You will energise your mind, body and soul and set a positive mood for the day. • Walking helps increase the strength and efficiency of your heart. • Walking helps lower cholesterol. • Walking helps increase energy levels. • Walking helps reduce blood pressure Most importantly, like any other cardiovascular exercise, brisk walking boosts your endorphin’s which can dramatically reduce your stress hormones, improve your mood and also give your skin a healthy glow – what’s not to LOVE about that?
